Global Warming is a Hoax?

This is proof that anything can become controversial. Even facts. It is a bit unbelievable that this is happening. That some people actually can't wrap their head around global warming.
Before we give this "Denial of Global Warming" campaign any thought, realize who is funding it. Oil, that's right, oil. Remind you of something? Of another large, rich, cancer causing product? Cigarettes maybe? Lets not buy into the ridiculous hype. They are the only ones that are going to loose in the Environmental politics game. The rest of us will turn up the winners.
Now, other than oil companies losing money (boo hoo they are bazillionaires now, right?), what is the down side to trying to save the environment?
1. Saving energy saves us- the consumers- money.
2. Buying products that can be reused and are not disposable- saves us money. Let alone makes for smaller land fills.
3. Buying organic food, keeps toxins out of our body, makes us aware of animal's suffering and we eat less processed over packaged foods. Saves us money on health care because we are eating healthier.
4. Buying sustainable and used furniture saves forests, so we can visit them and enjoy them, protects animals and helps clean the air we breath.
5. Buying locally boost our local economy and standard of living for everybody in our communities.
6. Those energy saving light bulbs last a lot longer than standard bulbs, so it saves us time in changing light bulbs and running to the store to buy more.
7. Less litter makes our streets and parks prettier and more enjoyable.
8. Learning to waste less teaches us and our children value of a dollar. We will treat our things better so that they will last longer.
9. Most hybrids are inexpensive compared to say a gas guzzling SUV- even the nicer ones, and will save us tons of money on gas. The air around our homes will smell better too.

I really could go on and on.
Please tell me what is the down side to trying to save the planet? No matter what, the earth can use all the help it can get. No matter what, it would make where we live better. Our children will appreciate us. So will our grandchildren.
The fact is even in our short lives, we have all noticed the effects of global warming. Maybe the frogs have left, it rains or snows less than you remember as a child, summers are hotter and longer, hurricane Katrina.
What do you think? Even if we could pretend for one second that global warming was not happening, is there a down side to energy conservation, not littering, sustainability, or organic farming?
If we do not work harder on saving the planet, the Christians will be right- the end will be near and ironically science will have predicted it.

Can't argue with your logic! I agree 100%, even if someone were to believe (and really, how could they?!?!?!) that global warming was a hoax, treating the earth respectfully STILL has numerous benefits. Stay on that soapbox!

(sorry, I accidentally deleted my above comment!)

I get really frustrated at the naysayers, and can see right through their self-interest. The Rush Limbaughs of the world obviously want to protect corporate interests.

But what's even more insidious is some religious groups who think that a) the earth is our dominion to rape and pillage as we pleas "god will provide" and b) why bother saving the world when we all know the rapture is coming soon anyway?

This kind of stuff makes me want to pull my hair out, but it also makes me appreciate people like you so much more!

I read this article and I was so infuriated. It reminded me of the documentary Future of Food where corporate heads for interest groups that sound well and good but aren't.
