My poor Baby Girl.

Yesterday, I came home from what turned out to be a lovely party at my aunt's house, when I found my sweet dog Baby Girl had collapsed on the floor. She has diabetes and she was in diabetic shock. We rushed her to the emergency room and they said she wasn't stable. She is still there, in critical condition. She is an old girl (14 years old), but this is for us, hard none the less.
This has made it very hard for me to concentrate anything at all.
She is such a smart dog. If you ask her if she wants to go for a walk or if she wants a treat she will jump for joy, barking and caring on. If you then say, in the same pitch mind you, "do you want a bath?" She will lower her head, put her tail down and slowly hide away so you can't take her for a bath (she hates them). She is amazing. Call me crazy but, I think she has an amazing grasp of the English language.
Today, at the vet, as she lay on the examination table, we were discussing her "quality of life" and other such options when she began to whimper and lift her hind leg. It was as if she was saying, "do not give up on me just yet". The doctor says (out of Baby Girl's ear shot) that she has a 50/50 chance of pulling out of this. They don't really know her of course, I say it is more like 60/40 in her favor.
Before we got her, she had been through a lot. Her previous owner couldn't really care for her very well and had Baby Girl stay at other people's houses quite a bit. Normally she hated staying at these other people's houses. This is until she stayed with us. She was abused by some of the people she stayed with and someone even shot her (she has buck shot pellets through out her body, we found out from x-raying her). Even through all of that, another dog might have been angry, but she is as sweet as can be. Baby Girl is great with kids, cuddly in bed, potty trained, and very street smart.
One thing funny about her is, she won't do tricks. I know that the can understand what I am saying but, if you tell her to sit, she will look at you like, "Nope, I do what I want." We could never get past sit, so forget shake or roll over!
We will know more tomorrow. Until then we have hope. I know if God wants her, God gets her. He will take good care of her. It just stinks. I hate that dogs don't out live their owners. I know the picture is a little blurry, but recently, she is hard to take photos of. Even so, isn't she pretty?

Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry to hear about Baby Girl! (love the bit about the bath, sounds like my 3 year old)

We'll definately be thinking about you over the next few days- and hoping for the best.

...and yes, she is a VERY cute dog!
