Coffee and Health

Is coffee good for us? Or is it making us fat and wrinkled?

Here is a pro argument for coffee.
Harvard Health Publications.
"The latest research has not only confirmed that moderate coffee consumption doesn't cause harm, it's also uncovered possible benefits. Studies show that the risk for type 2 diabetes is lower among regular coffee drinkers than among those who don't drink it. Also, coffee may reduce the risk of developing gallstones, discourage the development of colon cancer, improve cognitive function, reduce the risk of liver damage in people at high risk for liver disease, and reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease. Coffee has also been shown to improve endurance performance in long-duration physical activities."

Here is the con view.

Oprah, Dr Perricone, and Green Tea
Dr. Perricone says drinking coffee raises insulin levels. If this is true, coffee causes you to crave sugar. This would also directly conflict with the Harvard research that has stated it helps prevent type two diabetes. This would mean it did not have a negative effect on blood sugar or insulin.

To be honest I don't know what to believe. I fear that in ten years we will all be saying it is as bad and addictive as cigarettes. At one time cigarettes where considered somewhat healthy! Then, it was thought cigarettes were not that bad and now the are dubbed cancer sticks.
The picture included is my yummy morning (precious) peruvian blend, organic coffee with stevia and milk.
For now, I plan on trusting Harvard (even though they did pass Bush through and let him graduate from their school:))

Hi Samantha,

Damn, I was just going to blog about the coffee study next too! (I probably still will--Hope it doesn't look like I'm swiping ideas. We just must be reading the same sources.)

I was just going Pro, I hadn't even come across the Con. As you may have discovered, I have selective attention when there's something i don't want to know about a food or beverage I'm fond of.

Thanks, by the way, for stopping by my blog. Been kind of quiet today and I was getting a bit lonely.

I love your blog, even if you did (I know you are not) I would probably be honored, I love your blog. You are so funny and informative. I even put a link to you in my blog list (a very exclusive club at the moment).
