Interesting facts about Milk

Recently, I saw a post about the questionable practices of Horizon. It got me thinking about some facts I have learned recently about milk in one of my classes.
Milk is actually a very processed food. After the cow has been milked, the fat is removed from ALL of the milk. Then, it is put back in to make 1%, 2%, and 4% (whole) milk. After that it is homogenized to prevent the milk from separating. Lastly, it is pasteurized before it is packaged. Bet you thought milk was a "whole" "unprocessed" food, didn't you?
If you don't buy organic- add to the fact that it is filled with antibiotics and added hormones! Actually, if you want to get technical, all milk has hormones. That is a natural part of milk. If it is not organic then it has more hormones that are added by the farmer.
